Friday Focus - Distracted Drivers Awareness Month
April was Distracted Drivers Awareness Month and we wanted to take the opportunity to discuss driving with a dementia diagnosis.
We were thrilled to partner with Stagecoach and Sussex Police, who took the time to sit down with our Wayfinders and share their expertise.
The first discussion of the month was between our Wayfinders, Jacquie and Louisa. They chatted about their experiences with customers who they support with dementia, sharing stories about those living with dementia and their families different responses to them driving or deciding when they should stop, and whether you can drive with a dementia diagnosis.
Then Jacquie met with Lee from Stagecoach. This time the conversation was around how and when to introduce public transport into your life in the best way to support those with dementia and how Stagecoach can help with this, including through technology.
Our final driving with dementia discussion was with Andrew, a sergeant with Sussex Police. Andrew spoke about the legalities around driving after you have received a dementia diagnosis, how you can assess how safe your driving is, and where you can find driving and dementia support.
If you have any concerns or questions about driving and dementia after watching the videos, please call our Wayfinders on 01243 888691 or fill out an enquiry form.
