Friday Focus - Bringing People Together
Bring People Together Through Thick and Through Thin
At times these days, it can feel like there’s not a lot to smile about, news and all things Covid can feel relentless but Wednesday was probably one of the most touching moments I have experienced in months.
I received a zoom link in the morning from the Head of Sage House to join the 2 minutes silence at 11am with our day breaks customers – of course we always observe it but this year is an experience that will stay with me forever.
Like most I am tired of zoom and staring at screens so I was a little hesitant about how it would work. As I “zoomed in” I could see all of my team in their various “boxes” and the customers sat at the TV ….and then the clock struck. It was so beautiful to watch the customers all stand up as the gongs went – some needed support from our staff and some saluted, but every single one stood proud, they stood stoic. Shivers ran up my spine and I was covered in goosebumps – I watched as some of my team stifled tears and I have to say it was more poignant than I have ever known it this year
Armistice is defined as “the temporary stopping of open acts of warfare” and I experienced about 5 minutes on Wednesday of stopping…..of everyone stopping at the same time….it was a place where Covid wasn’t the topic and we simply remembered those who fought for us – lest we forget. It was 5 minutes where it felt as life should be – despite sitting there in my office alone – I was ‘with’ people and our charity was once again bringing people together albeit virtually. The feeling of isolation disappeared…we were at one. Simply beautiful.
