Ian explains how Alec Jeffreys invented DNA fingerprinting in the 1980s and how it was first used to catch Colin Pitchfork, a British man convicted of murdering two teenagers. He will also outline how the technique works and mention other major cases, including the O.J. Simpson trial and the identification of the last Russian royal family’s remains

Dr Ian Goodall is the retired headmaster of a very large comprehensive school. He has a passion for biology.
