Sensory Garden

Relax in our beautiful, dementia-friendly garden

Our garden space has been created to provide not only the opportunity to support mental health and wellbeing, but also volunteering, outdoor exercise and relaxation.

Natasha, a Wayfinder at Sage House says: "The sensory and therapeutic elements of the garden can improve wellbeing & mood, encourage social interactions and communication, reduce symptoms of anxiety and maintain physical activity."

Our garden has been designed as an accessible space for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. Feel free to drop in and explore.

The garden is intended to stimulate all our senses:

Sight
Sound
Smell
Touch
Taste

The plants and structures have been selected for their different colours, scents, textures, shapes, movement and patterns.

  • The sensory experience can evoke memories and also reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety.

  • Interaction with the restorative healing elements of nature can improve wellbeing and mood.

  • Active engagement in the garden through activities such as painting, watering and maintenance promotes positive physical activity.
