London Marathon Runners 2026

The streets of the capital are set to come alive this spring as the 2026 London Marathon prepares to welcome tens of thousands of runners and an estimated million spectators for one of the world’s most celebrated long-distance races.

Organisers say this year’s event, scheduled for Sunday 26th April, is on track to be the largest in the marathon’s history, with more than 50,000 participants expected to take part across elite, amateur and charity categories. The race will once again wind through some of London’s most iconic landmarks, beginning in Greenwich and finishing along The Mall near Buckingham Palace.

While only a fraction of the entrants were selected through the public ballot, thousands more will run on behalf of their chosen charities, continuing the London Marathon’s longstanding reputation as one of the world’s largest annual fundraising events.

Last year, runners raised more than £70 million, and early projections suggest 2026 could surpass that figure. Major UK charities, including those supporting mental health, cancer research and youth services, have reported unprecedented interest from runners.

As thousands prepare to take on their 26.2-mile challenges, a group of determined fundraisers will be pounding the streets with a shared purpose: raising vital funds for Sage House. For those taking on this year, the race is not just a physical test but a deeply personal mission.

Several individuals have chosen to dedicate their miles to Sage House – Jim, Fiona, Karen, Jordan and Martin. With only a limited number of places available through the charity, each runner is tasked with raising funds and awareness in the months leading up to race day. Donations raised will help sustain and expand “life-changing services” for families living with dementia in the community. Motivated by their own deeply personal connection to Sage House itself, the sanctuary Sage House has come to mean to them and their families, and their own family journey with dementia, our runners are in full swing with their respective training.

For Sage House runners, crossing the finish line on The Mall will represent far more than completing a marathon. It will mark months of dedication, remembrance and community effort - all aimed at helping families and their loved ones live well with dementia.
