Janine's Story - Friend of Sage House

Updated: 3 days ago

Sage House has been a complete lifesaver for our family.

When my stepfather sadly passed away in 2024, he had been the main carer for my mum, Angela, who has been living with Alzheimer’s for around seven years. At the time, they were living in France, and we were suddenly faced with the daunting challenge of navigating care and support and bringing mum back to the UK after 30 years.

From the very beginning, Natasha, our Wayfinder, was there for us, guiding us with compassion —

helping us find our way through doctors, local facilities, and care home recommendations, while being the reassuring shoulder we so desperately needed. She also introduced us to the Singing for the Soul music sessions held weekly at Sage House.

Dementia can take so much — so many treasured memories — but what Sage House offers are “pockets of time” where you can “enjoy the moment” and “find the laughter.” My mum may not remember what she had for lunch, and she often thinks I’m her mother and her son is her father — but when we attend any of the Singing for the Soul events, it’s as if the dementia disappears for that one precious hour.

Mum sings, dances, interacts, and smiles — and for that one hour a week, I get my mum back. It is pure joy, and truly the highlight of our week.

That’s why we became Friends of Sage House.  Through our regular monthly donation, we’re helping to ensure that others can experience the same joy and connection we’ve found here, and that wonderful activities like Singing for the Soul can continue bringing families together.

Our Christmas Double Up Appeal has begun! We're aiming to raise £200,000 towards our vital services, and every donation made before 23rd December 2025 will be DOUBLED thanks to match funding. Can you help bring joy and activities to people living with dementia this Christmas? Click here to donate today. Thank you.
